Children And Chiropractic

It has been my experience over the years that if your child is under chiropractic care they are much more healthy than the average child. Studies have shown that chiropractic provides:

  • Increased resistance to the common childhood diseases
  • Lower antibiotic use and lower incidence of disease (especially ear infections)
  • Disease was reported to be mild compared to disease by their classmates
  • Kids under chiropractic care “develop strong, well-balanced spines and are mindful of the need to take responsibility for one’s own health, not merely the absence of disease.”

Symptoms represent the body’s best efforts to heal itself. By treating symptoms, you are suppressing the body’s natural response and inhibiting the healing process. Instead of treating symptoms, doctors should stimulate the body’s defenses to allow for completion of the healing process.”

Dr. Stephen Cummings

If you had a fire in your house, you would not cut off the alarm and then relax, thinking that the fire is gone. The same thing happens to your body when you continue to ignore or mask symptoms. This is why athletes often develop chronic injuries.

"Many treatments, compounds and medications claim to speed the rate of healing. I have not read a single scientific article that demonstrates that healing time can be increased artificially. You cannot beat nature. All doctors can do is to be very careful that they do not slow down the natural healing process."

 William Southmayd, MD

Athletes have also discovered that Chiropractic care allows them to achieve an optimal level of performance when training and competing in their respective sporting event. A proper biomechanical structure allows athletes to achieve and maintain their optimal level of performance-safely and naturally. There is a growing body of research and case studies, which clearly show the relationship between Chiropractic care and athletic performance

Whiplash and Chiropractic

Whiplash is defined as a neck injury caused by over-extending or flexing the neck. This can happen during a car accident, sports injury, roller coasters, or a fall. Symptoms usually include neck pain, headache, dizziness, fatigue, irritability, shoulder and low back pain. More serious manifestations are difficulty swallowing, blurred vision, ringing in the ears, nausea and weakness. Although most persons begin to notice symptoms immediately following a trauma, they can be slow to develop and begin several weeks after the injury. If left untreated, whiplash can result in chronic and recurring problems, such as arthritis, headache, and stiffness. Chiropractic is very effective at treating whiplash so that that your recovery time is minimized. The goal is to return you to your active lifestyle as soon as possible.

NECK PAIN AND HEADACHES

Everybody has been afflicted with neck pain and headaches at one time or another. Pain is a distress signal. Something is wrong. Many times headaches are caused when spinal bones in your neck are not moving properly causing the muscles to tighten. This will affect the nerves, ligaments and blood supply to the head and shoulder region. 85% of all headaches originate for the neck. Chiropractic physicians focus on treating the underlying source of neck pain and headaches. Re-aligning the vertebrae in the neck and shoulder area help restore proper functioning of the vertebra, removing muscle spasm. Massage and exercises help prevent re-occurrence of the problem.

Your Nashville Chiropractor Explains How To Help Your Back Pain

90% of Americans will experience back pain at least one time in there life.. The old treatment was to take medicine and rest for two weeks. The reason that is wrong is because scare tissue will develop. Scare tissue is weaker than normal tissue and will cause chronic pain. Scar tissue does not allow for proper motion of your spine which can can many other issues too. Today's standard of care involves immediate treatment with manipulation, rehabilitation and exercises to restore function and healing. Chiropractic treatment and prognosis are based on the type of tissue involved and the mechanism of pain. Most cases include a disc injury, muscle spasm, or simple joint fixation which all cause back pain. A conservative approach is the key to healing and preventing on-going back pain. If you want to try a conservative approach to treating Low Back Pain, instead of medications and surgery try chiropractic. I have personally treated over 5,000 low back pain cases with about a 95% success rate. If I can not help you I have a great team of physicians to refer to. Dr. Jim

Your Nashville Chiropractor Explains What is Chiropractic

Chiropractic is a health care approach and profession that emphasizes on diagnosis, treatment and prevention of mechanical/structural and neurological disorders of the musculoskeletal system and nervous system. The main treatment involves manual therapy including  adjustments/manipulation of the spine and extremities. Many offices such as Sweeney Chiropractic have integrated rehabilitation, physiotherapy, massage and spinal decompression into their clinics.

D.D. Palmer founded chiropractic in the 1890s and his son B.J. Palmer helped to expand it in the early 20th century. Many chiropractors are more open to mainstream and alternative medical techniques such as exercise, massage, nutritional supplements, and acupuncture. Chiropractic is well established in the U.S., Canada, Europe and Australia.

in recent decades, it has gained more legitimacy and greater acceptance among medical physicians and health plans. Evidence-based medicine has been used to review research studies and generate practice guidelines. Many studies of treatments used by chiropractors have been conducted, with good results for many common conditions. Collectively, reviews of the current research have demonstrated that spinal manipulation is effective for most common conditions that we face every day. The efficacy and cost-effectiveness of maintenance chiropractic care is substantial. Although spinal manipulation can have serious complications in rare cases, chiropractic care is very safe when employed skillfully and appropriately.
