Nashville Chiropractic Effective for Cervicogenic Headache

We see a considerable number of people with headaches in our Nashville office, and Sweeney Chiropractic has been able to provide relief for many of them. Furthermore, the World Health Organization (WHO) states that half of all adults struggle with some type of headache problems, so this really isn’t surprising. One of the most frequent varieties of headaches which our patients experience is cervicogenic headache which, thankfully, chiropractic can often help.

What is a Cervicogenic Headache?

A cervicogenic headache is one that stems from an issue in the cervical spine. It can be due to a problem with either the spine itself (specifically, the vertebrae, joints, or discs), or it may be because of a problem in the muscles and tendons of your neck. This dysfunction in your spine can cause constriction or irritation of the spinal nerves, which can bring on headache pain.

How can you tell if the headache you are going through is a cervicogenic headache? Apart from getting a diagnosis from a healthcare expert, a frequent symptom of cervicogenic headaches is tenderness or pain in your neck. This is occasionally coupled with pain in the back of your head or between your shoulder blades.

How Chiropractic Helps

Because cervicogenic headaches will not subside until whatever issue is inducing them is corrected, it is crucial to get treatment instead of just trying to "wait it out." Chiropractic care is an effective approach, and one that offers a considerable amount of relief.

In one study printed in Chiropractic & Osteopathy, researchers evaluated 80 people who had regular cervicogenic headaches. Half received chiropractic care and the other half underwent light massage therapy. Each participant was evaluated 12 and 24 weeks after the procedures and it was discovered that chiropractic offered the optimum results.

Specifically, this study noted that chiropractic adjustments offered patients better pain relief and lessened the frequency of headaches that occurred. Furthermore, it also mitigated the disability that resulted from these painful headaches.
